Starting pitcher Dan Haren took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings of work. Former Suns Steve Cishek and A.J. Ramos both turned in scoreless innings of relief.
The Cardinals built a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Matt Adams two-run double. St. Louis also added a pair of runs in the seventh off Marlins reliever Mike Dunn.
The Marlins will return to action tomorrow, facing the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Ft. Meyers at 1:05 p.m. The Marlins will start former Sun Tom Koehler against Boston’s Justin Masterson.
