The Miami Marlins began their Grapefruit League schedule with a 4-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The Marlins mustered only four hits in the loss, although former Suns went hitless in the game. Miami’s lone run came in the bottom of the eighth when Jhonathan Solano had an RBI single.

Starting pitcher Dan Haren took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings of work. Former Suns Steve Cishek and A.J. Ramos both turned in scoreless innings of relief.

The Cardinals built a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Matt Adams two-run double. St. Louis also added a pair of runs in the seventh off Marlins reliever Mike Dunn.

The Marlins will return to action tomorrow, facing the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Ft. Meyers at 1:05 p.m. The Marlins will start former Sun Tom Koehler against Boston’s Justin Masterson.
