The Miami Marlins are ready to go for the start of the 2015 season, with today’s Opening Day matchup against the Atlanta Braves at Marlins Park.
Miami concluded its preseason schedule with a 14-8 loss to the Jacksonville Suns on Saturday at Bragan Field. Yesterday the Marlins had a light workout at Marlins Park, where the 25-man roster and Opening Day lineup was announced.
Of the 25 that made the roster, 10 Marlins are former Jacksonville Suns, and Christian Yelich, Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, and pitcher Henderson Alvarez are the former Suns in the starting lineup today against Atlanta.
Saturday’s exhibition between the Marlins and Suns was an exciting day, as over 8,000 fans made their way to Bragan Field for the event. A full recap is posted below, and we’ll have a post tomorrow that details the interviews and the coverage around the game.
The Major League Baseball season got officially underway yesterday, with the St. Louis Cardinals topping the Chicago Cubs 3-0 at Wrigley Field. Today there will be 14 games played, including the Marlins and the Braves at 4:10 p.m. in Miami.
Other notable former Suns back in action include Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, who will make his fifth Opening Day start against a much-improved San Diego Padres club at Dodger Stadium at 4:10 p.m.
As for the Suns, there will be workouts over the next three days leading up to Minor League Baseball Opening Night on Thursday when the Suns welcome the Jackson Generals to Bragan Field. Media day is scheduled for Wednesday, along with a preseason party at the Jacksonville Landing that night where fans will be introduced to the 2015 Suns.
