JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns will honor the 2014 Southern League Champion Suns ball club throughout the 2015 season, with five special promotional nights planned at Bragan Field.
The salute to Jacksonville’s sixth Southern League champion begins with Opening Night on Thursday April 9 as the Suns face the Jackson Generals at 7:05 p.m. The Suns will giveaway replica championship rings to the first 3,000 fans through the gates, courtesy of Underwood’s Jewelers and First Coast News 12&25.
On April 25 the Suns will honor 2014 Southern League Championship Series Most Valuable Player Viosergy Rosa. The first 3,000 fans will receive his replica white home jersey, presented by SwisherSports.com, FOX-30, and 99.1 WQIK. During the 2014 postseason, Rosa hit four homers in seven games including two against Chattanooga in Jacksonville’s sweep during the SLCS.
The Suns will bring back fond memories of the clinching Game Three win of the Southern League Championship Series with a Mary Frances Bragan bobblehead doll. The Madame Chairman of the Suns threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Suns clinched the title on Sept. 14, 2014, and the first 3,000 will receive the bobblehead tribute, presented by Nimnicht Family of Dealerships, CBS-47, and WOKV.
Mrs. Bragan threw out that first pitch to Suns catcher J.T. Realmuto, and he’ll be honored with a bobblehead doll on July 11. Realmuto was the Miami Marlins Minor League Player of the Year in 2014 and the key bat and leader of the champion Suns. His bobblehead doll will be given away to the first 3,000 fans, and the bobblehead is presented by Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, First Coast News 12&25, and 96.1 WEJZ.
When the Suns clinched the title in Game Three, it was Orlando native Justin Nicolino who pitched a gem of a game, putting a cap to a 2014 season that saw him be named Southern League Most Outstanding Pitcher and the Miami Marlins Minor League Pitcher of the Year. When Nicolino exited Game Three in the seventh inning, he tipped his cap to a Bragan Field crowd that gave him a thunderous ovation, and that moment will be fondly remembered with a bobblehead doll giveaway on July 25.
The bobblehead shows Nicolino just before he tips his cap to the Jacksonville crowd, and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive the bobblehead thanks to EverBank and 96.9 The Eagle.
The season long promotion at Bragan Field for the 2015 season is “Pedro’s Last Dance,” as the Suns celebrate the final year of Peter Bragan, Jr.’s ownership of the ball club in his 31st season in Jacksonville.
The 2015 season of Suns baseball is presented by EverBank, the official banking partner of the Jacksonville Suns. Sponsorships, group outings, and season / individual game tickets are currently available by calling the Suns front office at (904) 358-2846.
