The Jacksonville Suns (2-1) will try and clinch a series victory in game four of this five-game opening series against the Jackson Generals (1-2) today at Bragan Field with a first pitch of 3:05 p.m. ET.

The Suns last night took game three by a 3-1 score after getting a strong starting performance from left-hander Chipper Smith  who went five strong innings allowing three hits and one unearned run on two walks and one strikeout. Jacksonville’s bullpen came in to nail down the victory courtesy of a collaborative effort from Craig Stem, Gregg Nappo, and Nick Wittgren. Stem threw two scoreless frames while Nappo pitched a clean eighth to go along with two strikeouts then Wittgren closed the door with his 1st save of the season after tallying 20 just a season ago.

The Suns plated runs in the first, fifth, and eighth innings off of Generals pitching. Jackson starter Tyler Pike was pulled after 4 and 2/3 innings after relinquishing three hits two runs (one earned) while walking three and fanning three batters along the way.

For today’s contest it will be Suns right-hander Kendry Flores in his Jacksonville and double-A debut. Flores came to the Miami Marlins organization courtesy of a trade that sent INF Casey McGehee over to the San Francisco Giants organization. Flores in 2014 with the San Jose Giants (A+) posted a 4-6 record alongside a 4.09 ERA in 105.2 innings pitched.

For the Generals righty Dylan Unsworth will take hill to try and stop Jackson’s two-game skid. Unsworth came to the Mariners organization as a non-drafted free agent signing in 2009. Last year he went 6-9 with a 5.88 ERA in 26 starts (career high) with High Desert. This will be his first start at the double-A level.

Suns Spots: Here’s a note from the official Jacksonville Suns game notes:

For the first three games of 2015 the Suns have been able to get stellar pitching performances out of their starters. Trevor Williams, Jake Esch, and Chipper Smith have all provided at least five innings while only giving up a solo run between the three. The trio has tallied a total of 16 strikeouts, while the Suns pitching staff has rung up 30 total batters on strikes which is good for third in the Southern League. Jacksonville’s team ERA (0.67) through 27 innings pitched, paces the rest of the league while also being tied for second in the S.L. in hits allowed with only 17 given up.
