The Jacksonville Suns (5-1) racked up their fifth-straight victory last night with a dramatic 3-2 walk off victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (1-6).
Last night, with a nice crowd on hand for the first “Thursday Night Throwdown” of the year at Bragan Field, Sharif Othman provided a memorable moment when he lined a game-winning double down the right field line to propel Jacksonville to victory. Othman in his first year with double-A Jacksonville is hitting .400 while currently holding on to a four-game hitting streak.
The Suns did get a solid pitching performance from their starter Chipper Smith. The lefty did not allow a run in 5.1 innings while walking four and striking out a season-high six batters. The bullpen did give up two runs (both earned) in the seventh and eighth innings respectively. Ultimately Greg Nappo tossed a scoreless ninth and stepped into his first win of the year. With the Suns taking the first two games of the five-game set from the Biscuits by an identical 3-2 score, Jacksonville tonight can look for its second straight series victory to start 2015.
The Biscuits have started the first two games of this series 0-for-20 with runners in scoring position including last night’s 0-for-9 en route to Montgomery’s sixth-straight loss.
Today’s pitching matchup will bring righty Kendry Flores (1-0, 1.80) to the mound for Jacksonville, and in his last start against Jackson he manufactured five innings of two-hit baseball allowing one earned run while walking two and striking out three. For Montgomery right-hander Jared Mortensen gets the start. In Mortensen’s opening start of 2015, he went six strong innings surrendering two runs (one earned) while striking out nine in a no decision.
Fans can listen to the game live on the Suns Baseball Network, with Roger Hoover providing play by play. Roger Hoover and Kyle Crooks will host the Memorial Hospital Suns Pre-Game Show, beginning at 6: 50 p.m. ET on the Suns Baseball Network.

Who’s Hot: Jacksonville catcher Sharif Othman came into yesterday’s contest with Montgomery hitting .455, and since taking over the catcher’s role he has been a big spark for the Suns offense. Last night Othman provided the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the tenth. This comes a night after he pushed his team in front with a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth to give the Suns a lead they would not give up.
