The Jacksonville Suns (5-3) will look to bounce back against the Montgomery Biscuits (3-6) after dropping their last two to set up a rubber match today at Bragan Field with a 3:05 p.m. ET first pitch.
The Suns would run into a situation in which they have not been before, a “blowout loss,” at the hands of the Biscuits in which the road team belted out 12 runs on 14 hits including four home runs in 12-5 Jacksonville loss. This marks the first time in 2015 in which the Suns have lost back-to-back games.
Last night Austin Brice (0-1, 5.79 ERA) manufactured 4 and 1/3 innings and although he did strike out eight batters, he allowed six earned runs on six hits in the loss, which totaled for the most offensive output allowed by a Suns starter this year.
For the Biscuits Mikey O’Brien (W, 1-1) earned his first victory in relief of starter Reinaldo Lopez, throwing 4 and 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball.
Montgomery recieved a few big nights at the plate. Johnny Field blasted two home runs that would be piggybacked by long balls from Tommy Coyle and Daniel Robertson.
Today the Suns will send southpaw Matt Tomshaw (0-0, 2.25) to the mound for his first start of the year. Tomshaw in three games, all relief appearances, posted a 2.25 ERA in four innings of relief.
Jacksonville will be opposed by rehabbing major-leaguer Drew Smyly (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who is working his way back during a DL-stint in which he has been nursing shoulder tendinitis. The left-hander is expected to go until the 70 pitch mark.
Fans can listen to the game live on the Suns Baseball Network, with Kyle Crooks providing play by play. Roger Hoover and Kyle Crooks will host the Memorial Hospital Suns Pre-Game Show, beginning at 2:35 p.m. ET on the Suns Baseball Network. Also fans can watch the game live and in high definition on CW17 with Roger Hoover and Suns Owner Peter Bragan Jr. on the call.

Who’s Hot: Suns Spots: Here’s a note from the official Jacksonville Suns game notes:
-Yesterday the Miami Marlins announced a roster move that sent right-handed pitcher Casey McCarthy from advanced-A Jupiter to double-A Jacksonville. With Lay Batista coming back from the disabled list, and McCarthy getting the call up, the Suns now have a full compliment of arms in the bullpen.
