Suns Fall to Wahoos 3-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns (14-20) dropped the series finale 3-1 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (15-20) Friday night from Bragan Field.

Carlos Gonzalez (W, 2-1) lasted 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings while walking one and striking out three in relief for Pensacola. Matt Tomshaw (L, 0-3) entered in the eighth for the Suns and was tagged for three earned runs on three hits while walking one and striking out a solo batter. Zack Weiss (S, 2) tossed 1 and 1/3 frames nailing down his second save of the year for the Wahoos.

The scoring would begin in the top of the eighth when Pensacola put up a three spot against Suns reliever Matt Tomshaw. It all began with a two-out walk to Jesse Winker, followed by a single off the bat of Marquez Smith to set the table. Kyle Waldrop then provided a RBI single to get the Wahoos on the board with a 1-0 lead, subsequent to that Seth Mejias-Brean created breathing room after mashing a two-run double to create a scoreboard advantage of 3-0.

In the bottom of the ninth against Wahoos reliever Zack Weiss, David Adams lined a run-scoring single down the right field line to send home Carlos Lopez who lead off the frame with a single trimming the deficit to 3-1.

Kendry Flores manufactured seven scoreless frames allowing five hits while walking two and tying a season-high in strikeouts with eight. Wandy Peralta lasted six scoreless innings allowing three hits while walking two and striking out six in his start for Pensacola.

The Suns will begin a five-game set with the Biloxi Shuckers in Huntsville, Alabama Saturday night with a first pitch set for 8:10 p.m. ET from Joe Davis Stadium. The Suns will send out right-hander Austin Brice (1-3, 7.18 ERA) while the Shuckers will throw righty Brooks Hall (4-1, 2.19 ERA).
