The Jacksonville Suns (26-32) can grab a five-game series sweep over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (22-35) tonight with a first pitch slated for 7:35 p.m. ET from Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.
The last series that saw Jacksonville win all five games came at the tail end of last year between the dates of 8/29-9/1, in a series with the Mobile BayBears, which ultimately helped propel the Suns to a second half title en route to grabbing a Southern League Championship in 2014.
Tonight’s pitching matchup will feature Jacksonville right-hander Scott Lyman to be opposed by Pensacola righty Daniel Wright. This is Lyman’s second career start with double-A Jacksonville, after make one trip to the hill with the Suns a year ago, in what turned out to be a loss against Birmingham where he allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in five innings of work. The right-hander has been impressive with high-A Jupiter prior to the call up, going 7-1 with a 1.61 ERA in 11 starts. Lyman possessed the second best ERA in the Florida State League (1.61), second highest win total (7), third best average against (.192), and was third in innings pitched (67.0). On the Hammerheads, he was first in ERA (1.61) for starters, innings pitched (67.0), third in strikeouts (37), and fifth in WHIP (1.01). The product of the University of California-Davis is a former 10th round selection of the Marlins in 2011.
Wright takes the ball 2-4 alongside a 5.76 earned run mark in 10 starts for the Wahoos. His last start came on 6/5 against Mobile, in what was a no decision for the Tennessee native where he would last six frames allowing one run (earned) on six hits. He faced Jacksonville on 5/14, and that day Wright manufactured six innings surrendering two runs (one earned) while offering up a season-high nine hits in a winning decision. He’s a former 10th round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2013 out of Arkansas State.
