CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior today’s game against the Chattanooga Lookouts at 2:15 p.m. at AT&T Field.
Miami Marlins right-handed starting pitcher Jarred Cosart has had his major league rehab assignment transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Jacksonville. Cosart will start for the Suns today against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field.
Cosart with the Zephyrs made two rehab starts, with no wins or losses and a 4.91 ERA in 11 innings on the mound. Cosart was placed on the disabled list on May 14 with vertigo. Cosart with the Marlins this season is 1-3 with a 4.08 ERA in seven starts.
Cosart was acquired by the Marlins last season on July 31 in a trade with the Houston Astros, along with Austin Wates and Enrique Hernandez in exchange for Francis Martes, Colin Moran, and former Sun Jake Marisnick. After going 9-7 with the Astros with a 4.41 ERA in 20 starts, Cosart made his last 10 starts of the year with the Marlins, going 1-3 with a 4.08 ERA.
Cosart, originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 38th round of the 2008 draft out of Clear Creek HS in League City, Texas, was traded to the Astros in 2011 in the deal that sent Hunter Pence to Philadelphia. Cosart made his major league debut on July 12, 2013, and finished that season in the big leagues with the Astros going 1-1 with a 1.95 ERA in 10 starts.
Overall for his major league career, Cosart is 15-15 with a 3.38 ERA in 47 starts. This will be his first start in the Southern League.
