JACKSONVILE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns (6-7, 35-47) fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts (3-9, 46-34) 6-1 in a rain-shortened contest that was called due to rain in the seventh Wednesday afternoon from Bragan Field.
David Hurlbut (W, 4-4) lasted six and two-thirds frames in which allowed one run (earned) on seven hits while while walking one and striking out four in the win. Scott Lyman (L, 0-4) in his start for Jacksonville worked five innings surrendering six runs (five earned) on nine hits while walking one and striking out six in a losing decision.
The scoring would begin in the top of the first for Chattanooga, after Levi Michael and Max Kepler generated a pair of singles that was subsequently followed by Aderlin Mejia’s RBI base knock creating a 1-0 advantage.
To the bottom of the first, and Carlos Lopez (HR, 4) took the first pitch he saw and delivered a solo home run into the right field bleachers to make it a tie game at one apiece.
To the second, and the Lookouts worked a pair of runners on for Niko Goodrum’s run-scoring ground rule double that made it a 2-1 game. Next batter Levi Michael then ripped a groundball to first that plated a pair of runs, courtesy of Ryan Rieger’s fielding error now creating a 4-1 Suns deficit.
In the fourth, the Lookouts tacked on a pair of runs following a RBI groundout courtesy of Michael, and a run-scoring double off the bat of Max Kepler that generated a 6-1 cushion.
The game would be called due to rain with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, earning the Lookouts a 6-1 win.
