JACKSONVILE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns (8-10, 37-50) were dropped in the rubber match with the Mobile BayBears (10-8, 44-43) 5-2 Monday afternoon from Bragan Field.
Hear from Suns manager David Berg:
Braden Shipley (W, 5-8) generated six innings relinquishing one run (earned) on four hits (one home run) while not walking a batter and striking out four. In his start for the Suns Scott Lyman (L, 0-5) worked six frames surrendering three runs (all earned) on six hits (one home run) while walking four and striking out three in the losing decision.
The scoring would begin in the top of the first after Ender Inciarte (HR, 1) ripped a solo home run to put Mobile up 1-0.
The Suns would respond in the bottom of the second, after Matt Juengel’s (HR, 15) solo blast deep over the left field wall tied the game at one.
To the fourth, and the BayBears took the lead after Mark Thomas and Tom Belza both singled to put runners on the corners for Braden Shipley’s RBI sacrifice bunt to put Mobile up 2-1 through three innings.
In the top of the sixth, Belza worked a one out walk to then steal second and move to third on a groundball. Now with Ender Enciarte at the plate, Lyman would offer up a wild pitch to bring in Belza and push Mobile ahead 3-1.
In the seventh frame Gerson Montilla generated a lead off walk, then to get knocked in courtesy of Zach Borenstein’s (HR, 9) two run home run off of Suns bullpen arm Craig Stem, that made it a 5-1 cushion for Mobile.
To the bottom half of the seventh the Suns would creep closer after Sharif Othman’s RBI single made the tally 5-2.
The Suns will begin a five-game series on Wednesday night with the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park with a first pitch set for 8:00 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out right-hander Trevor Williams (5-7, 3.98 ERA) while the Braves have yet to announce their starter.
