PEARL, Miss. – The Miami Marlins announced pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Mississippi Braves at 7:00 p.m. ET at Trustmark Park.
Outfielder Brent Keys has been released by the Marlins organization. Keys, the 2013 Marlins Minor League Player of the Year, played in 10 games for the Suns this season, hitting .207 (6-for-27) with no home runs and no runs batted in.
In a corresponding move, the Marlins have signed outfielder Eudy Pina (pronounced A-oh-dee Peen-ya) to a minor league free agent contract and assigned him to Jacksonville. Pina, recently released by the New York Mets organization, was hitting .305 with two homers and 20 RBI in 67 games played for the Double-A Binghamton Mets in the Eastern League in 2015.
Pina played in the Mets organization from 2009 to earlier this month, and in seven seasons in professional baseball is a career .261 hitter with 37 home runs and 259 RBI in 564 games played. He is a native of Bani in the Dominican Republic, and is 24 years old.
The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.
The Suns and Braves will square off again Saturday night from Trustmark Park with a first pitch set for 7:00 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out left-hander Matt Tomshaw (4-6, 3.89 ERA) while the Braves will counter with righty Victor Mateo (5-5, 2.87 ERA)
