PEARL, Miss. – The Jacksonville Suns (9-13, 38-53) were topped by the Mississippi Braves (13-9, 46-44) 4-2 Saturday night from Trustmark Park.

Victor Mateo (W, 6-5) worked seven and two-thirds frames and relinquished one run (earned) on seven hits while not allowing a walk and striking out a solo batter. Matt Tomshaw (L, 4-7) lasted six innings in his start for Jacksonville and allowed four runs (all earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out six. Mitch Lambson (S, 1) earned the save after collecting the final two outs out of the bullpen for Mississippi.

The scoring would begin in the top of the fifth, after a lead off walk to Levi Hymes, and a single off the bat of Sean Godfrey, put a pair of runners on for the Braves with nobody out. After a successful sacrifice bunt by Victor Mateo placing a pair of baserunners in scoring position, a two-run infield single off the bat of Emerson Landoni moved the Braves in front 2-0. Still with two runners on, Kevin Ahrens would come through with a two-run single to double up the Braves advantage and make it a 4-0 game.

Flashing to the seventh, and newest Sun Eudy Pina led off with a triple to then get driven home courtesy of Sharif Othman’s RBI groundout to create scoreboard deficit for Jacksonville of 4-1.

To the top of the ninth, against Braves bullpen arm Mark Lamm, Pina generated a one out triple to set up 90-feet away from home. Now with Mitch Lambson on the mound for Mississippi, Zack Cox laced a RBI single to make it a 4-2 contest.

Out of the bullpen for Jacksonville Scott McGough tossed a pair of scoreless innings offering up one hit.
