Ellington Returns to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Birmingham Barons at 7:05 p.m. at Bragan Field.

Right-handed relief pitcher Sean Donatello has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 20, with right forearm tendonitis. Donatello, a 2015 midseason Southern League All-Star, is 0-4 with a 4.05 ERA in 28 appearances out of the bullpen. Donatello also leads the Southern League with 14 saves. This is the second stint on the disabled list for Donatello, who missed time from June 8 to July 6 with right biceps tendonitis.

Additionally, infielder David Adams and left-handed relief pitcher Raudel Lazo have been placed on Jacksonville’s temporary inactive list. Adams was placed on the list due to the birth of a child, while Lazo is tending to personal matters.

Also right-handed relief pitcher Brian Ellington has returned to the Suns from the temporary inactive list. Ellington missed part of July with the Suns to participate for Team USA, which claimed the Silver Medal at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This season with the Suns, Ellington is 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA in 22 relief appearances.

The Suns roster now stands at 23 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns will begin a five-game set with the Birmingham Barons Thursday night with a first pitch in the series opener from Bragan Field set for 7:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out right-hander Josh Hodges (1-0, 2.25 ERA) while the Barons will counter with righty Robinson Leyer (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
