Suns Fall to the Barons 6-4

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns (10-19, 39-59) were topped by the the Birmingham Barons (20-8, 53-44) 6-4 Sunday night from Bragan Field.

Hear from Suns manager David Berg:

Kyle Hansen (W, 3-2) earned the victory for Birmingham tossing a scoreless inning and two thirds allowing three hits while walking one and not striking out a batter. Raudel Lazo (BS, 2) (L, 2-1) tossed an inning of relief for the Suns in which he allowed four runs (unearned) on three hits (one home run) while walking two and striking out one. Peter Tago (S, 1) nailed down his first save after two scoreless innings of work in which he tallied four strikeouts.

The scoring would begin in the top of the second after Adrian Nieto (HR, 5) blasted a two home run to put the Barons ahead 2-0.

In the bottom of the second after Jacksonville’s Viosergy Rosa led off with a double, he would then get knocked in courtesy of Eudy Pina’s (HR, 1) two run home run off the right field foul pole to tie the game at two.

Flashing to the sixth frame the Suns took the lead after J.T. Riddle led off with a double to then move to third courtesy of a Matt Juengel fly ball out. With Riddle at third, he would come home via a throwing error by Barons starter Frankie Montas putting the Suns ahead 3-2. Jacksonville wasn’t done, after Pina laced a RBI single pushing the Suns in front 4-2.

In the seventh the Barons plated four runs to take the lead. First a fielding error by Suns third baseman Zack Cox on a Tim Anderson groundball sent home Joey DeMichele, after DeMichele and Keenyn Walker supplied a pair of two out singles. It was then Jacob May (HR, 1) who blasted a three-run home run into left field off of Suns bullpen arm Lazo, that pushed the Barons ahead 6-4.

In his start for Jacksonville, Scott Lyman generated six innings allowing two runs (both earned) on three hits (one home run) while walking three and striking out five. Brian Ellington tossed a pair of scoreless frames out of the bullpen for the Suns.

The Suns and Barons will square off in the series finale Monday night from Bragan Field with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out right-hander Trevor Williams (6-8, 4.16 ERA) while the Barons will counter with righty Myles Jaye (9-4, 2.55 ERA).
