Game Recap

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Suns (10-20, 39-60) dropped the series finale to the Birmingham Barons (21-8, 54-44) 5-3 Monday night from Bragan Field.

Hear from Suns manager David Berg:

Myles Jaye (W, 10-4) for Birmingham generated six innings allowing three runs (all earned) on two hits while walking four and striking out three. Austin Brice (L, 3-7) in his start for Jacksonville would work six innings allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out six. The Suns would mount a rally in the bottom of the second after David Adams and Ryan Rieger worked a pair of walks. After a Terrence Dayleg sacrifice bunt placing Adams and Rieger in scoring position, Zack Cox would drive in both courtesy of his two run single putting Jacksonville ahead 2-0.

Flashing to the third frame, and all with two outs, a single, hit by pitch, and a walk would load the bases for Christian Marrero’s (HR, 12) grand slam home run that put the Barons in front 4-2.

In the bottom of the sixth Jacksonville generated runners on the corners with one out for Ryan Rieger’s RBI fielder’s choice to bring in a run and bring the Suns to within a 4-3 deficit.

To the seventh, and the Barons picked up a lone run after Keenan Walker manufactured a one out walk, to then steal second, and plate after Jacob May’s RBI single into center pushed the Barons to a 5-3 scoreboard advantage.
