MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium at 6:35 p.m. ET.

Left-handed starting pitcher Matt Tomshaw has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Tomshaw pitched in 25 games and made 14 starts for the Suns, going 5-9 with a 4.11 ERA. In his 96 and a third inning pitched, Tomshaw struck out 69 batters compared to 19 walks. This is the first call-up to the Triple-A level of Tomshaw’s career.

In a corresponding move, right-handed starting pitcher Jorgan Cavanerio has been transferred from Single-A Greensboro to Jacksonville. Cavanerio will take Tomshaw’s spot in Jacksonville’s starting rotation, and will make this Double-A debut this evening against the Biscuits.

Cavanerio has spent the majority of the season with the Grasshoppers, going 3-5 with a 4.21 ERA in 13 starts. He also made three starts with the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads in early July, going 0-3 with a 4.08 ERA. Cavanerio, 20, is a native of Cagua, Venezuela, and this is the first call-up to the Double-A level of his career. He was signed by the Marlins as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in 2011.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns and Biscuits will square off again Sunday night with a first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. ET from Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium. The Suns will send out Cavanerio while the Biscuits will counter with right-hander Taylor Guerrieri (0-1, 4.50 ERA).
