The Jacksonville Suns (15-31, 44-71) will continue their series tonight against the Jackson Generals (15-30, 44-69) with first pitch for game two of the their series set for 8:05 p.m. ET from The Ballpark at Jackson.
The Suns have performed well in series openers this year, but did fall last night in game one, setting their mark on the year in series openers at 16-9 overall and 7-4 in the second half. Prior to the start of JAX’s current five-game losing streak, the Suns had claimed their last two ‘lid-lifters’ against Pensacola and Montgomery.
Jacksonville now sits at its’ lowest point below .500 on the year at 44-71 (27 games). The Suns on the road have also hit a low mark, now resting 20 games under .500 (18-38) after having dropped five of the six games on this current 10-game road trip.
Tonight’s pitching matchup will feature Jacksonville right-hander Austin Brice to be opposed by Jackson righty Dylan Unsworth. Brice enters tonight’s start 4-8 alongside a 5.56 ERA in 21 starts with the Suns. The native of North Carolina in his last trip to the hill against Montgomery on 8/7, earned a winning decision in five frames on the mound allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits while walking and striking out three in a 92-pitch performance. In the month of August, Brice has put together a 1-1 mark while sporting a 6.97 ERA in a pair of starts and 10 and a third innings on the mound. He’s made one start against Jackson this year, and worked five scoreless innings surrendering only one hit, in what turned out to be a cancelled/tied game in the seventh on 4/13. He’s a former ninth-round draft pick of the Marlins in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Northwood H.S. in North Carolina.
Unsworth takes the ball 2-4 alongside a 5.45 ERA in eight starts with the Generals. His last start came on 8/3 against Chattanooga, in what was a winning decision in six and a third frames on the mound in which he offered up only one run (earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out five. Prior to his stop with Double-A Jackson, the 22-year old made 11 appearances and five starts with High-A Bakersfield and put together a 1-3 mark to go along with an ERA of 3.32. The former minor-league free agent signing of the Seattle Mariners in 2009 is coming off the seven-day disabled list to make this start against Jacksonville tonight.

Who’s Hot: Suns first baseman Viosergy Rosa has hit safely in five of his last six games and has posted a .286 average in his last eight contests alongside three home runs and eight RBI. David Adams has posted a .364 average in his last 10 games along with two home runs and six RBI, while tallying a hit in seven of his last nine games. Suns shortstop. Backup catcher Chadd Krist has made the most of his playing time providing the only multi-hit performance on Wednesday night. Krist has generated a .308 batting mark in his last four starts. The Suns bullpen tossed eight and two-third scoreless innings on Tuesday night in a 14-inning loss.
