Adams and Cox Named 2015 Southern League Postseason All-Stars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Suns second baseman David Adams and third baseman Zack Cox have been named to the 2015 Southern League Postseason All-Star Team, announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Adams is currently hitting .287 with five homers and 44 runs batted in during 112 games played with the Suns in 2015. His .287 batting average is the best mark of a current Sun, and is also 10th best in the Southern League at the time of his postseason All-Star selection. Adams is also third best in the Southern League in on-base percentage (.395), and has the fifth lowest total plate appearances /per strikeout ratio: 8.15.

Adams was also a midseason Southern League All-Star in 2015. He also played in the major leagues with the New York Yankees in 2013, was previously named an Arizona Fall League Rising Star in 2012. Adams was signed by the Marlins as a free agent in January.

Cox hit .321 with four homers and 27 RBI in 103 games played for the Suns in 2015 before being transferred to Triple-A New Orleans on August 19. His batting average is currently third best in the Southern League, and he ended his time with the Suns on a seven game hitting streak, where he hit .455 (15-for-33) with his last four games all being multi-hit contests. Cox was also a midseason Southern League All-Star in 2015, and a 2010 Arizona Fall League Rising Star selection. Cox, originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of the 2010 draft out of Arkansas, was acquired by the Marlins in a trade with the Cardinals in 2012.

The All-Star team included: catcher Wilson Contreras (Tennessee), first baseman Cameron Seitzer (Montgomery), shortstop Orlando Arcia (Biloxi), outfielders Max Kepler (Chattanooga), Socrates Brito (Mobile), Adam Brett Walker II (Chattanooga), and Jacob May (Birmingham), designated hitter Christian Marrero (Birmingham), utility man and best hustler Tim Anderson (Birmingham), right-handed pitcher Jorge Lopez (Biloxi), left-handed pitcher Blake Snell (Montgomery), and relief pitcher Zack Weiss (Pensacola).

The All-Stars were selected by Southern League field managers and media personnel.

The Suns and Mississippi Braves will open up the final series of the year Thursday night from Bragan Field with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET. Suns will send out left-hander Chipper Smith (3-4, 4.35 ERA) while the Braves have yet to announce their starter.
