The Jacksonville Suns (27-41, 56-81) will look for their fourth series victory of the second half against the Mississippi Braves (36-31, 69-66) tonight at Bragan Field with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET.

With a win tonight the Suns can earn only their fourth series victory of the second half, and their ninth overall on the 2015 season. Here at the Baseball Grounds, the club could grab its’ sixth series win at home, and their third in the latter portion of the year. Even if Jacksonville were to win out, the club would still fall just a game short of the .500 watermark at Bragan Field.

The Suns will look to play spoiler for the last two games of this series against Mississippi, who continues to be in contention in the South Division. The Braves, even with the loss last night, still remain a half game back of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The Wahoos are coming off a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Mobile BayBears. The BayBears now sit only a game back of first place in the crowed top tier of the South Division.

Tonight’s pitching matchup will feature Jacksonville left-hander Matt Tomshaw to be opposed by Mississippi righty Stephen Janas. Tomshaw will step to the mound tonight 5-10 with an ERA of 4.45 in 28 games and 17 starts with the Suns. The southpaw’s last trip to the hill came on 8/31 against Tennessee, in which he would shoulder a losing decision after five innings on the mound allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits while walking and striking out three. Tomshaw had a small stint this year at the Triple-A level with New Orleans, and there would make a pair of starts and work to an 0-2 record with an ERA north of 17. The local Jacksonville University product began the year in the Suns bullpen before joining the rotation in early June. The 26-year old is a former 42nd round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft, and was acquired by the Marlins organization courtesy of the 2014 Rule-5 draft.

Janas will take the ball 2-7 alongside a 4.23 ERA in 12 starts with the Braves. His last start was on 8/31 against Biloxi, in which the righty posted a victory after six scoreless frames allowing only one hit while walking two and striking out three in an 88-pitch performance. Janas at the High-A level with Carolina this year manufactured an ERA of 0.59 along with 5-0 mark over six starts. The 23-year old was called up to double-A on July 2nd, and this year marks his first year at the Double-A level. The native of Marietta, Ga. is a former sixth-round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Kennesaw State University.
