Yefri Perez Called Up to Miami Marlins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight’s game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 7:05 p.m.

Suns utility player Yefri Perez has been recalled from Jacksonville to the major league Miami Marlins. Perez, a 2016 Southern League Midseason All-Star, was hitting .262 with a home run and 28 RBI in 82 games played for the Suns this season. Perez leads the Southern League and is tied for second in all of Minor League Baseball with 39 stolen bases.

This is the second call-up for Perez to the majors this year, with the first being on July 3 when the joined the Marlins as the 26th man on the roster for the Fort Bragg Game, but he did not appear in the game.

In a corresponding move, infielder Garrett Weber has been transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Jacksonville. Weber played in two games for the Zephyrs, going 3-for-6 with a triple. Weber has also played for the Suns this year, and in 20 games is hitting .200 with no home runs and four RBI.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns continue their series with Pensacola at 7:05 p.m. Friday, when right-hander Patrick Johnson (4-5) is scheduled to face Blue Wahoos right-hander Rookie Davis (6-3). NAPA Family Fireworks presented by NAPA Auto Care Center follow the game. The Suns will wear red jerseys to support the military on Red Shirt Friday. Fans who wear red can save $1 off a ticket at the box office or donate the $1 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The game is also presented by Gator Country 99.9 WGNE.
